Halton is an attorney and ex-Senior Partner with Cheadle Thompson & Haysom. He is Professor of Law at the University of Cape Town and has acted as a Judge of the Labour Court and the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court. He was also the deputy director of the Centre for Applied Legal Studies, University of the Witwatersrand and has been appointed to various commissions of enquiry and government delegations.
Halton is former special advisor to the Minister of Labour and was the principal architect of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 and continues to participate in the drafting of legislation for a number of government departments. Prof. Cheadle is the recipient of various awards and fellowships and has presented extensively at national and international conferences.
Halton has published journal articles and is the author or co-author of a number of books. His most recent works include “Current Labour Law”, “The New Labour Relations Act” and “Fundamental Rights in the New Constitution”.
Halton is based in Cape Town.
