Anashrin practices as an advocate at the Pietermaritzburg Bar, KZN. Prior to joining the Bar, he practiced as an attorney for approximately 18 years. He has a particular interest in ADR processes involving labour law, civil commercial law and international commercial law. He was appointed as a commissioner by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in 2003. He is presently a Senior Panellist with the Education Labour Relations Council and was a Panellist with the General Public Sector Sectoral Bargaining Council for 10 years; the Public Health and Welfare Sectoral Bargaining Council for 6 years; a Panellist with the South African Local Government Bargaining Council for 2 years. He served as a committee member on the KZN Law Society’s Labour Law Committee, acted as a Regional Court Magistrate and presided over Municipal Rates Evaluation Appeals whilst he was an Attorney.
With regard to other work and experience of a general nature, he served as the Chairperson of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL), Pietermaritzburg Region for two terms and prior thereto as a member of its Executive Committee in various capacities for several years. He was also appointed as a District Electoral Officer for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for the Pietermaritzburg Region for our country’s First Democratic Elections in 1994.
