Eric was a policeman for 34 years, 30 years as a detective. He has a sound knowledge of the investigation of all offences and forensic investigations. Retiring with the rank of Major General he spent the last 10 years in the police dealing mainly with staff and HR problems which from time to time included allegations of sexual harassment. Because of his 30 years of experience as a detective, legal background and experience in Labour law, he finds that clients require forensic investigations to gather evidence to compile charge sheets and to ensure that evidence is available to prove the charges.
With the latest case law requiring that charge sheets are more precise, this is fast becoming a requirement not to fall short at the CCMA and other forums. The investigation of fraud, misappropriation of property and related misconduct are his forte.
Eric conducts training workshops for Chairpersons and initiators. It includes identifying the offences, drafting of charge sheets and evidence to prove the allegations.
Eric has nine years experience as a Commissioner (level A) at the CCMA and 3 other Bargaining Councils. 80% of his time is spent on arbitrations, many of which he mediates a settlement before arbitration. During the course of the years he has dealt with sensitive cases with sexual innuendo or outright sexual harassment. These case require a very sensitive approach where impartiality is not only imperative, but must be shown.
Eric has chaired numerous disciplinary inquiries including senior staff members. None of the matters that he has dealt with was challenged in the CCMA or other forum.
Eric is based in Pietermaritzburg.
