Karen graduated with BA and LLB degrees from Stellenbosch University and was admitted as an attorney in 1991. She has practised employment law since 1991 and advises mainly employers and executive employees. She has a special interest in matters relating to race and gender discrimination and has published articles in this field.
Karen is a mediator and arbitrator and prior to the amendment of the Labour Relations Act sat as an assessor in the Labour Appeal Court. She has also appeared on behalf of clients in the Labour Court and in arbitration.
Karen has done a considerable amount of work in relation to the employment law consequences of commercial transactions and, in particular, section 197 of the Labour Relations Act. In November 2003, Karen sat as an Acting Judge in the Labour Court.
Karen is based in Johannesburg.
