Erika is a practising attorney and partner in the firm Bester & Rhoodie Attorneys in Irene, Centurion. She had been practicing labour law for approximately 18 years, after obtaining the BLC-degree at the University of Pretoria in 1988 and her B.Proc. at UNISA in 1991. As an attorney specialising in labour law, she not only represents employer parties, but also acts on behalf of unions and employees and is therefore acquainted with the needs and perceptions of both management and labour.
Erika has vast exposure to the operation of bargaining councils and particularly the former Industrial Council for the Local Government Undertaking, where she actively participated as member and served on various committees of the Council. In addition to practising as an attorney, where she represents clients in litigation in various forums, including the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and Labour Court, Ms Bester is a panel member of the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council. She served as a neutral chairperson and facilitator in collective negotiations and acted as arbitrator and mediator in numerous arbitrations and mediations concerning labour disputes under the auspice of various Bargaining Councils and the CCMA, as well as privately. Ms. Bester also develops and presents training courses as accredited facilitator in her training company, which offers SETA-accredited training in workplace related matters.
