Francois van der Merwe is an advocate of the High Court of South Africa and an active member of the Johannesburg Bar. His expertise lies in labour rights disputes, with emphasis on internal hearings and investigations, private and statutory arbitrations, and litigation.
He previously worked in labour relations management and labour dispute resolution in the private and public sectors, including mining, transport, municipal and central government organisations, as senior manager, legal advisor and consultant.
Francois has written thousands of awards, rulings and findings, over a period of some 20 years, covering just about every conceivable labour rights issue. He is a well-known labour arbitrator, chairperson of investigations and enquiries, and part time senior commissioner for the CCMA and bargaining councils. He frequently appears in the Labour Court.
He has written academic comments, has lectured at university level, has presented papers at conferences and seminars, and has developed and presented various training programs in the field of labour law and industrial relations.
