Attie is an experienced dispute resolver who acted as mediator, arbitrator, facilitator and trainer over the last 3 decades in Southern Africa. He left his position as Associate Professor in Industrial Sociology at the University of Pretoria to go into private practice as a labour arbitrator and mediator at the end of 1995. He continued to lecture as Professor Extraordinaire at the University of Pretoria until 2001.
For a number of years he mediated between management and the major trade unions at the Chamber of Mines and also chaired the Transnet Bargaining Council in their annual wage negotiations and acted as part time senior commissioner for the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
Attie served as arbitrator for various bargaining councils. He published articles on industrial relations, third-party intervention, and industrial sociology topics. He also advised companies from a people management perspective in business improvement, process optimisation, and people alignment.
Attie regularly conducts workshops, training programs and process interventions for major corporations and trade unions in various industries across Southern Africa.
