Apart from serving on Tokiso’s employment and commercial panels, Jacques has been a fellow of the Association of Arbitrators since 1991. He is a panelist of the National Bargaining Council for Chemical Industry, the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council, and the Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council.
He is a part time Level A Commissioner at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) since April 2007 where he has presided at more than 1100 conciliations, arbitrations, mutual interest disputes, rescission and condonation applications, with a settlement rate of 98% during 2011-2012.
Jacques has delivered approximately 300 arbitration awards dealing with contractual, building and labour related matters and has acted as Chairperson at various disciplinary enquiries.
Jacques practiced as an advocate at the Cape Bar from 1962 to 1985 where his practice consisted mainly of civil litigation.
As chief legal advisor to Telkom, Jacques advised management on various commercial, contractual, labour and personnel matters, and drafted various agreements and other legal documents. He held this position from 1985 until rejoining the Bar in 1994 where his practice focused on dispute resolution/arbitration.
Jacques keeps abreast of current ADR developments and has successfully completed the AFSA mediation training course in November 2010.
